Summertime…

It’s Summer time. Hardly any news from the photography front. No announcements, no plans. I’ve edited some pictures of my recent shoot, but it’s not finished yet. I’ve been talking to other would-be models lately, maybe I’ll do a shoot with one of them later this year.

Picfog

This week I read a Volkskrant article about Picfog. The article is in Dutch, but try the link to Picfog itself to get the idea. The pics are low quality camera phone pics most of the time but it’s really fascinating to have a near real-time impression of what’s happening around you. Even more, if somewhat feels you’re peeping into other people’s lives.

Sony NEX-7!

While still absorbing all the latest news about the upcoming Sony NEX-5, my eyes fell on an article mentioning the NEX-7, the high end NEX family member expected in September during the Photokina. The NEX-7 is expected to have a larger body due to in-body stabilization and it would also feature 1080p (instead of 1080i) and 720/120fps high speed video modes.

Awkward Family Photos

Another site to visit if you’ve got a few spare minutes: awkwardfamilyphotos.com. Not as funny as photoshopdisasters.com and not as good as dpreview.com, but still worth a visit every now and then. And it might even help you avoid terrible mistakes when shooting your next family portrait…

Adobe CS5 Refine Edge

Another new feature of Photoshop CS5 is the Refine Edge funtion which will definitely become one of my best friends soon. Anyone who has ever struggled with masks, channels and selection tools to cut a model loose from the background knows what I mean. There are several samples of this new function on Youtube (judge for yourself).

Apple iPhone 4G

Not really photography related but still worth mentioning: the very unofficial announcement (also called rumor) of the Apple iPhone 3G successor: the iPhone 4G. Read more here and here.

Artantique

Today I visited the Artantique art fair in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. This is a new art fair with a mixture of antique and modern art (hence the name!). I was, of course, mostly interested in art photography, but I was also attracted by Chinese miniature statues from the Ming dynasty, glass objects, clocks, hyper-realistic paintings and many more.

Wacom Cintiq 21UX

A month ago or so, I saw an ad of the Wacom Cintiq 21UX interactive pen display. Wow, I thought, that’s the perfect gadget for Photoshop enthusiasts like me! And I still think it is. Imagine drawing directly onto your screen instead of watching your screen while your hand is somewhere to your right. I’m very happy with my Intuos board, but when drawing I sometimes miss the direct link between hand and display. And that’s exactly where the Cintiq comes to rescue. In case you’re interested, here’s a nice review on Gizmodo.

Site redesign

Today I refreshed my website. All custom php code has been replaced by WordPress and some custom css tweaks. Nothing spectacular yet, I’m still doubting whether I should include a portfolio page and some other photography related stuff, like I used to have. Just to make it a bit more than just a blog. For now I’m happy!
